The following is a list of classes and workshops:
Living Well As Long As Possible with Hugh Montgomery
• 9:30-11:30 a.m. Saturdays, Jan. 16-Feb. 6. Tuition: $60.
Learn how to boost your physical health, manage stress, maintain optimal functioning and make healthy lifestyle choices.
Japanese for Everyone with Seiichi Kaida
• 6-8 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 20-March 23. Tuition: $100.
Immerse yourself in the language, history, culture and customs of Japan by joining issei Seiichi Kaida in this engaging and comprehensive introductory course.
Fundamentals of Writing a Fiction Novel with Anthony Roberts
• 9:30 a.m.-noon Saturdays, Jan. 23-March 26. Tuition: $120.
Author Anthony Roberts teaches the basic tools of fiction writing such as character and plot development, creating engaging dialogue, editing, marketing and more.
Exploratory Drawing &Painting for Beginners with Kellie Miyazu
• 9 a.m.-noon Saturdays, Feb. 6-March 26. Tuition: $140, includes art supplies.
Explore your creativity in this introductory course to drawing and painting with graphic designer Kellie Miyazu.
Introduction to Permaculture Design with Zach Mermel
• 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 20-21 (includes one-hour lunch). Tuition: $95.
This two-day workshop explores the basics of permaculture — a design discipline that mimics nature’s patterns to create healthy, resilient human habitats.
Basic Grant Writing with Jeani Navarro
• 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at Waikoloa Elementary School (includes one-hour lunch). Tuition: $75.
Participants will learn all about the grant-writing process, how to write a compelling statement of need and learn what funders are looking for in grant proposals.
Aquaponics for Beginners with Jeremy Cann
• 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, May 14. Tuition: $45
Learn to build an aquaponics system that can sustain fish and edible plants. Ages 10 and older welcome.
Solar Photovoltaic Basics with Jeremy Cann
• 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 21. Tuition: $45
This hands-on beginner’s workshop will teach students how solar energy is captured, stored and converted into conventional electricity.
Vermicomposting for Beginners with Jeremy Cann
• 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 28. Tuition: $35
This workshop is perfect for anyone who wants to learn about worms and the benefits of worm composting in growing fresh produce. Students also will construct a vermicomposting bin. Ages 10 and older welcome.
