Thomas “Tom” Dawson, 69, of Kailua-Kona died Dec. 31 at home. Born in Paterson, N.J., he was a retired air traffic control manager for Keahole International Airport and Rochester International Airport, a former firefighter and fire chief, member of the American Legion Post 20 and U.S. Army veteran. Services held. No flowers. Memorial donations to Hospice of Kona, P.O. Box 4130, Kailua-Kona, HI 96745. Survived by wife, June Dawson of Kailua-Kona; daughters, Michelle (Jeff) Gulick of Castle Rock, Colo., and Cindy (Michael) Kane of Waikoloa; two granddaughters. Kandi “Rysa” Marysa Daphne Hooper, 28, of Honalo died Jan. 4 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Kealakekua, she was a caregiver and cashier for Napa Auto Parts. Evelyn Matsue Miyashiro, 94, of Hilo died Dec. 28 in Hilo. Born in Waianae, Oahu, she was co-founder and retired owner of Cafe 100 Restaurant in Hilo and member of Kinoole Baptist Church and Hui Okinawa Club. Visitation 1:30-3 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 10) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 3 p.m. Casual attire; no flowers or koden (monetary gifts). Survived by daughters, Gloria (Raymond) Kobayashi, Kay (Wayne) Shintani and Gail Miyashiro of Hilo; sisters, Dorothy Terukina of Honolulu and Helen (Farrington) Blaisdell of Sacramento, Calif.; sister-in-law, Betty Miyashiro of Springfield, Mo.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; nephews, nieces and cousins. Yan Zhao Xie, 89, of Keaau died Dec. 15 at Life Care Center of Hilo. He was born in China. Visitation 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday (Jan. 13) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Burial to follow at Homelani Memorial Park, Ilima section. Survived by wife, Guo Ying Liang; sons, Luo Qun (Guo Xin Wong) Xie, Luo Huo (Ru Tian) Xie and Luo Dong (May) Xie; daughters, Ge Zhen Sezto and Mu Zhen (Seath Yang Lee) Xie; 18 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The late Dianita Carino Cabalce was survived by, among others, 22 grandchildren. An obituary published Jan. 3 had an incorrect number.
