The way things were going, it figured that UH-Hilo’s 16th 3-pointer wasn’t enough to secure the Vulcans’ first victory.

The way things were going, it figured that UH-Hilo’s 16th 3-pointer wasn’t enough to secure the Vulcans’ first victory.

But No. 17 was.

Jordan Russell hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer in overtime Saturday and UH-Hilo finally found the win column with an 88-85 victory against Point Loma in San Diego.

“I’m just happy for the the kids,” coach GE Coleman said. “They’ve been through a lot and they stuck with it.”

The Vulcans (1-9, 1-5 Pacific West Conference) kept bouncing back, even after the Lions scored the first six points of OT.

The Vulcans took the lead on Randan Berinobis’ 3-pointer with 38 seconds remaining.

The Sea Lions answered quickly on Sam Okhotin’s 3-pointer.

But Russell had the final answer, finishing with 24 points and six 3-pointers.

The Lady Vulcans lost 74-55 to Point Loma.
