Single-wall homes
Single-wall homes
In all of the discussion and debates about the need for affordable housing, especially to ease the homeless situation, has there been any thought of easing building code regulations to allow a return to single-wall construction?
Single-wall homes were, for many decades, the norm in Hawaii and are well-suited to our climate.
They have stood the test of time. There are suggestions that these buildings might be cheaper to build, easier to maintain, have fewer hiding places for destructive termites and provide a cooler living environment.
With modern technology, single-wall homes could easily be prefabricated out of termite-resistant materials and erected on post-and-pier foundations that allow for easy maintenance of plumbing and electrical systems.

Reforms needed
There is a lot of controversy about the implementation of a Medicare-for-all system, or “single-payer health system,” yet few realize its effectiveness.
Sen. Bernie Sanders was one of the first to bring up the subject. Personally, this is something needed for the health care of citizens. The people who oppose it don’t care about the young, disabled or the elderly.
There are many things that need to be fixed to be reclaimed in our country. You have a shot to change the system in the 2016 election. Let your voice be heard. Let’s unite to reclaim a great country in the world.

Regarding MMA
Regarding Robert Lee’s recent letter to the editor (Tribune-Herald, Your Views) about mixed martial arts: Sadly, there are some who abuse that sport by taking it to the streets just to intimidate someone, such as an elder like Mr. Lee.
To some, the words, “jus’ scrap,” used to promote this type of event, could be too demeaning and intimidating to such a sport that is tough, disciplined, with strictly enforced fighting rules such as MMA.
Serious injuries, as mentioned by Mr. Lee, do occur in MMA, just as they do in football (brain concussions), from little leagues to professional.
So, for those of you who have to abuse a professional sport such as MMA by taking it to the streets and intimidating someone weaker or older than you, such as the incident involving Mr. Lee, why not take your talent into the octagon and put your money where your fist is?
