FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — A slew of entertainment offerings will greet travelers sailing on the world’s largest cruise ship when it debuts in May.
Harmony of the Seas’ entertainment will range from high-tech ice shows to high-flying acrobatic performances to a new problem-solving group activity called Puzzle Break, operator Royal Caribbean International announced this month.
The 16-deck, Oasis-class cruise ship, which can carry 5,497 passengers at double occupancy, will launch in Europe and then make its way to Port Everglades in November for seven-night cruises to the eastern and western Caribbean.
“We are taking entertainment to the next level on Harmony of the Seas with more captivating, immersive entertainment experiences than ever before,” Nick Weir, Royal’s vice president of entertainment, said in a news release.
Here’s a snapshot of Harmony’s entertainment options:
— “Columbus, The Musical!”: An original Royal Caribbean production inspired by “Spamalot” and “Something Rotten.” The musical recounts the imagined history of Marvin Columbus, Christopher’s fictional, down-on-his-luck, distant cousin.
— “Grease”: Royal Caribbean’s adaptation featuring original choreography, costumes and aerial elements.
— The Fine Line: An AquaTheater show including high-flying feats, stunts and acrobatics.
— Hideaway Heist: A new comedy dive show depicting a swanky 1950s holiday resort where an undercover detective, playing the part of a high-rolling vacationer, pursues a burglar.
— 1887: A production on ice revolving around love and adventure. It begins in Paris on Feb. 14, 1887, at the height of the career of Jules Verne, author of “Journey to the Center of the Earth” and “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea.”
— iSkate Showcase: Another ice show in which skaters perform moves set to popular tunes.
— Red Party: A high-energy party at sea with DJs, special effects and technology.
— Stowaway Piano: A pop-up piano player act that keeps passengers guessing where it will make its next appearance.
Additionally Harmony will be Royal Caribbean’s first ship to offer a new water park for kids called Splashaway Bay. The park will have the tallest slide at sea with a 100-foot plunge and a trio of slides known as The Perfect Storm.
The ship’s offerings will also include a bar with dancing robot bartenders, virtual balconies in many interior staterooms with sea and port views and new specialty restaurants Izumi Hibachi & Sushi, Sabor Taqueria and Tequila Bar.
