Uncle Billy’s Hilo Bay Hotel isn’t closing its doors just yet.

The kama‘aina hotel on Hilo’s Banyan Drive announced another operator has agreed to take it over and that it will not be closing today as previously planned.

The deal is subject to approval by the state Board of Land and Natural Resources at its Feb. 12 meeting.

Aaron Whiting, hotel manager, said operations will continue under current ownership until that time.

He declined to identify the company interested in taking over operations, but said it is local to the state.

“As of today, I’m not at liberty to disclose,” Whiting said. “They want to make the announcement themselves.”

If approved by the Land Board, the new owner would be accepting the terms and conditions of the existing land lease, which becomes a month-to-month revocable permit next month, he said.

No staffing changes are planned and the hotel continues to take reservations, Whiting said.
