A Hawaii County spokesman verified Monday that county officials have declared an emergency in the ongoing response to the dengue fever outbreak.
The declaration opens the way for Gov. David Ige to make his own emergency declaration, which will provide access to the state’s Major Disaster Fund to help cover expenses related to mosquito control efforts.
A spokeswoman for Ige said Monday afternoon that they were working on a response.
