Department of Health personnel will shut down access Friday to the Waipio Valley overlook to spray the area for mosquitoes in the ongoing effort to stop the spread of dengue fever on the Big Island.
The closure is scheduled for 8 a.m., and will last until noon, weather permitting, according to a Thursday afternoon update from Hawaii County Civil Defense.
Also Thursday, the DOH reported two new confirmed cases of dengue infections on Hawaii Island, bringing the total since the beginning of the outbreak on Sept. 11 to 254.
