Police say an army bomb squad blew up a suspicious device found Wednesday in the backpack of a 9-year-old boy at Ka‘u Learning Academy in Discovery Harbour.

Police say an army bomb squad blew up a suspicious device found Wednesday in the backpack of a 9-year-old boy at Ka‘u Learning Academy in Discovery Harbour.

At about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, the U.S. Army’s Explosive Ordnance Detail from Oahu took the device to a safe area where it was detonated.

Preliminary tests were inconclusive as to the contents of the device, police said.

The investigation is continuing.
