If you want to transform your lanai, lawn, field or fence into an abundant oasis of edible and multifunctional plants, consider the Ecological Land Care: Edible Landscaping for Backyards and Beyond workshop slated for Feb. 27 at the Volcano Art Center.
Instructor Zach Mermel will teach participants the fundamental landscaping do’s and don’ts and interact with a wide range of useful, easy-to-grow edibles.
Participants also will be able to take home a number of edible plants at the conclusion of the workshop and receive handouts of practical readings and resources to continue their learning at home.
Other workshop topics will include:
• Environmentally friendly landscaping and gardening.
• Methods for rapidly expanding the plant biodiversity of your garden.
• Knowing where pollinator partners flourish.
The workshop hours are 9 a.m.-2 p.m. with a break for lunch.
Course fees are $40 or $30 for VAC members, plus a $15 materials fee.
