7-on-7 football fundraiser

Panaewa Athletics Combined Hawaii is holding a car wash from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday at Kai Store on Kilauea Avenue to raise funds for a group of 14 athletes and four coaches to travel to the Pylon Elite National 7v7 football tournament in Las Vegas.

A free 7-on-7 tournament is in the works Feb. 28 before the team leaves for tournament (March 2-7), and a account has been set up at www.gofundme. com under PAC Hawaii Travel Fund.

The tournament hosts more than 150 teams, and according to a release, “This experience will afford our boys opportunities for college and will help our coaches create integral relationships and further opportunities that will serve our student-athlete community for years to come.”

Flag football registration

Waiakea Nakoas flag football is holding sign-ups for ages 5-15 at Shipman from 4-6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

UHH baseball clinic in Waimea

Waimea Athletics is hosting a youth clinic featuring the University of Hawaii at Hilo baseball team from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sunday at Waimea Park.

Players 8-14 will participate in advanced hitting, pitching-catching, and batting and fielding stations.

Softball team seeks sign-ups

The Gummy Bears 10-and-under softball team is looking for girls interested in participating in the sport. Practices are 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays on the Ainaola Park softball field.

To participate bring along shoes, a glove and water.

Vuls’ Sawada earns accolade

University of Hawaii at Hilo senior Kristen Sawada was named the Pacific West Conference women’s golfer of the Week after she finished tied for 36th at the Lady Rattler Round-up. Sawada posted a two-round 165 to lead the Vulcans, who tied for 13th place overall.

Setting the record straight

• Waiakea wrestler Tevis Holi’s name was misspelled in Tuesday’s edition.

Holi won the 145-pound title at the BIIF wrestling championships on Saturday.

• The Hilo Trap and Skeet Range will start renovations on Wednesday, Feb. 24, and is expected to remain closes until August.

A wrong date for the start of the renovation process was listed in Wednesday’s edition.
