Eboby Ayers

Sport: Wrestling

Ayers, a Keaau senior, carried the banner for the BIIF at the HHSAA wrestling championships on Saturday in Honolulu as the only league wrestler to reach the finals.

She lost her title match 15-14 and had to settle for silver, though Cougars Keith Fernandez and a rival BIIF coach thought Ayers just as easily could have won via pinfall had a call gone her way.

Ayers holds the distinction of coming closest to winning state gold of any Keaau athlete since the school opened in 2000. She’s not done yet, either. Ayers is all ready hard at work at judo practice with an eye on states in May.

Honorable mention: Hawaii Prep’s Marlie Mandaguit, who led Ka Makani girls soccer team to a state threepeat.
