U.S. District Judge Leslie Kobayashi sentenced a 37-year-old Mexican national Monday to 28 months in prison and 36 months of supervised release for re-entering the United States from Mexico without permission.
U.S. Attorney Florence T. Nakakuni said that according to court documents and information presented in court, Palemon Alexander Delatorre was previously convicted in federal court in September 2014, of re-entering the United States in May 2014. He had been deported in April 2014 following his apprehension by the Hawaii Police Department in Kona.
Only two months prior to that deportation, in February 2014, Delatorre was allowed to voluntarily leave the U.S. after being arrested by the Hawaii Police Department in Kona for contempt and traffic-related offenses.
After he served approximately 3 1/2 months in prison on his prior conviction for illegal re-entry, Delatorre was again deported to Mexico in September 2014.
Subsequently, Delatorre unlawfully re-entered the United States and was again arrested by Big Island police in March 2015.
