NEW YORK (AP) — The Dramatists Guild Fund convinced some theatrical heavy-hitters such as two-time Tony winner Terrence McNally and Pulitzer Prize-winner Paula Vogel to hit the road offering writing workshops, master classes, talkbacks and other public events.
The fund said Wednesday that McNally, Vogel, composing team Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, and playwrights Anna Ziegler, Lauren Yee and Chisa Hutchinson will be Traveling Masters, making public appearances in Hawaii, Pennsylvania, New York, Missouri, Minnesota and West Virginia.
Madeleine George, a Pulitzer Prize finalist for “The (curious case of the) Watson Intelligence,” started the process this year when she hit South Carolina in early February.
Ahrens and Flaherty wrote the score of “Ragtime,” Ziegler wrote the West End’s “Photograph 51,” and Yee’s plays include “Ching Chong Chinaman.” Hutchinson is a Lanford Wilson Award winner.
Kauai officials extend deadline for Coco Palms project
LIHUE, Kauai (AP) — A redevelopment firm planning to restore a Wailua resort has more time to get the project going as Kauai County officials decided to wait before considering revoking the firm’s permits.
On Tuesday, the Kauai County Planning Commission gave Coco Palms Hui LLC until April 26 to show progress on the Coco Palms site before further action is taken.
The firm had a deadline of April 13 to demolish the historic Coco Palms Resort, which was made famous by the Elvis Presley film “Blue Hawaii,” but demolition is expected to take between four to six months and has yet to begin.
County officials say they will decide if they want to modify or revoke the firm’s permits at a later date.
