A structure fire destroyed a Puna home Thursday evening.
Six units responded to the 6:58 p.m. alarm. Firefighters arriving at 7:25 p.m. had to force their way through a locked gate and found the home at 14-5019 Laimana Road in Kapoho fully engulfed in fire with a Ford sedan next to the home on fire, as well.
The tenant of the home escaped without injuries and the Red Cross is providing aid. County tax records indicate the home is owned by the Sylvia T. Akiona Trust.
Damages are estimated at $105,000 and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
