Tyra Fernandez hit a go-ahead two-run double in the eighth inning Thursday to spur a four-run rally, and the Dragons held on to beat Ka Makani 7-5 in Waimea.
Sneha Nair’s hit produced two runs for Ka Makani (0-3) in the bottom of the eighth, scoring Katt Chong Gum, who was hit by a pitch, and Sara Heymann, who singled.
But Fernandez fielded a grounder to short and threw out Tina Wu to secure the victory for Dragons (2-1), who beat HPA in an 18-8 TKO on Feb. 26 in Honokaa.
Destynee Carvalho struck out four and didn’t walk a batter to get the victory.
Sakura Remsen hit a home run for Ka Makani, and Heymann and Emily Fong each collected three hits.
Kia’i Lindsey struck out four and walked five in taking the loss.
Wednesday
Pahoa 19, Ka’u 16: Kriya Benn hit a bases-loaded double in the sixth inning to put the Daggers ahead for good as the won a slug fest at home.
Tiana Kapumau earned the win for Pahoa (1-2). The Trojans fell to 1-2.
Kamehameha 20, Keaau 0: Mykala Tokunaga struck out seven in a three-inning TKO no-hitter, and Taylor Sullivan belted two doubles among her three hits and drove in two as the host Warriors won their opener.
Makena Wagner, Brook Baptist and Tokunaga each collected two hits, and with Wagner and Baptist each driving in two runs.
Kealakehe 15, Kohala 5: The Waveriders won their opener in Kapaau, dropping the Cowgirls to 1-1.
Volleyball
Isaiah Laeha put down six kills and visiting Kamehameha beat Kealakehe 25-18, 25-17 on Thursday, improving to 2-0 in what was the Waveriders’ opener.
• Kohala dropped its opening set of the season but came back to beat defending BIIF Division II champion Hawaii Prep 19-25, 25-21, 25-17 at Castle Gym in Waimea. Ka Makani fell to 0-2.
