Big Island Running Company in Hilo is offering a free nine-week Couch to 5K program.
The program is for those who have always wanted to run but never knew where to start.
Coaches will train, support, and guide participants every step of the way.
The introductory meeting kicks off at the stores Hilo Bayfront location at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Mixed volleyball league sign-ups
The Lokahi Co-ed Volleyball League is starting April 5 and has openings for two A division teams and two in the B division.
All ages are welcome for a league that plays from 7-10 p.m. Tuesdays from April 5 to May 24.
The cost is $40 a team and the deadline to register is March 22.

Hilo marathon registration
The Big Island International Marathon will be held March 20, and registration is ongoing for the marathon ($105), half-marathon ($90) and 5K ($35) and 2-mile walk (untimed, not charge).

• Registration is ongoing for third annual Hilo Triathlon, slated for July 10.
Through May 31, the cost is $175 or $85 per team.

Keaau seeks head coaches
Keaau High is accepting applications for the following positions:
• girls volleyball head coach
• girls basketball head coach
• girls soccer head coach.
All interested applicants can pick up an application in the main school office during regular work hours, and applications will be accepted through March. 18
Applicants must be able to submit and pass a background check and be interviewed by a panel.

Local pros to offer free lessons
The Aloha Section Professional Golf Association (ASPGA) and Hawaii State Junior Golf Association (HSJGA) have partnered to offer Hawaii Junior Golf Day, teaching free golf lessons from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19 at Hilo Muni.
Aloha Section PGA president Lance Taketa and local professionals will run the free clinic at the driving range for ages 5 to 18. The lessons are for new and beginner golfers only.
