Carmen Verzola Barreras, 75, of Captain Cook died Jan. 30 at home. Born in Puunene, she was an opera singer, member of the San Jose Civic Light Opera and self-employed master hairstylist. Burton Yoshimi Ito, 76, of Kealakekua died Feb. 18 at Kona Community Hospital. Born in Kealakekua, he was owner of Burton Ito ATA Architect, a coffee farmer, member of Kona Historical Society, Hind Kumiai, Kona Hongwanji Buddhist Temple and Fukuoka Kenjin Kai. Services held. Karen Yoshie Kujubu, 51, of Hilo died Feb. 22 at Hilo Medical Center. Born in Hilo, she was a clerk/cashier for Longs Drugs Store and member of Puna Hongwanji Mission.
