Fires continued to burn throughout West Hawaii during the weekend, firefighters reported.
There was one new fire over the weekend, Battalion Capt. Ty Medeiros said. It was on Saturday on Highway 190 between the 22 and 23 mile markers and consumed about 200 square feet.
There are still firefighters on scene at the Lako Street brush fire, which broke out last week, he said, quelling burns within the firebreak. Otherwise, firefighters are back at stations.
They do not have a current count of suspicious fires, he said, although about a dozen have been reported so far.
The cause of the fire that destroyed the home of the Hooper ohana on Wednesday is still undetermined, he added.
The Hoopers lost their home at the end of Hooper Villa Road in Honalo to a fire that consumed their wood frame house. Family and community members have begun a fundraising and donation program for them.
