The Palace Theater wants to thank the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts for the support of our recent Brittni Paiva and Makaha Sons concerts. We also want to thank our patrons who attended these two spectacular concerts. The money received from the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts allowed the Palace to plan for and continue to bring in your favorite Hawaiian musicians.
The Makaha Sons have been performing their annual Valentine’s Day weekend concert at the Palace Theater since 2006. On Feb. 13, we all celebrated 10 years of beautiful melodies with amazing harmonies and a list of songs old and new that changes every year.
Though Brittni Paiva has performed on our stage as part of our Piligrass concerts in the past, Nov. 14 was her first time headlining an event on our stage. She introduced us to the talented Aidan James from Honolulu and shared the music of two of her top ukulele students.
The Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts is a philanthropic organization that has supported the arts and culture in Hawaii for 50 years. Early members of the state government developed a plan to “promote, perpetuate, preserve and encourage culture and the arts of Hawaii.”
This plan has worked for the benefit of entities such as the 90-year-old Palace Theater to bring focus to the traditional as well as more modern forms of Hawaiian music and to feature the well-known along with the newly discovered Hawaiian talents among us. We in Hawaii are fortunate to have such an organization supporting arts and culture in our islands.
We thank the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts not only for supporting our theater endeavors, but for its positive impact in all communities throughout the great state of Hawaii. We look forward to future partnerships with the foundation to bring the best of Hawaiian music to the Palace Theater stage.
