The Vulcans used eight pitchers in their first road game of the season, a 11-1 loss to Menlo College in Atherton, Calif.

Jordan Kumasaka tossed two scoreless innings, giving up a hit while striking out three to start the game.

Thomas Warren took the mound in the top of the third but gave six runs on three hits and three walks while picking up one out. Drew Ichikawa worked 1 2/3 innings and allowed a run on two hits and two walks.

Next up was Timothy Mendonca, who kept the Oaks off the bases in the fifth while Cole Nagamine gave up a hit and walk while striking out one in the sixth.

Cole Nakachi’s outing in the sixth was short as he gave up three runs on two hits and two walks. Deric Valoroso, Jr. came in faced just three batters while striking out a two. Kyle Yamada got the last inning, giving up a run on three hits while striking out one.

Michael Jenkerson had an RBI double for the Vulcans. He and each finished with two hits.

As UH-Hilo went through a pitching carousel, Nick Bonniksen went seven innings for the Oaks (23-10), improving to 5-1.

The Vuls head to California for conference doubleheaders with Fresno Pacific on Thursday and Friday.
