During the week of March 14-20, Hawaii Island police arrested 20 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was younger then 21.
During the week of March 14-20, Hawaii Island police arrested 20 motorists for driving under the influence of an intoxicant. Seven of the drivers were involved in traffic crashes. One was younger then 21.
The numbers of arrests by district were:
• Kona, 11.
• Puna and South Hilo, four each.
• Hamakua, one.
So far this year, there have been 251 DUI arrests compared to 207 during the same period last year, an increase of 21.3 percent.
There have been 304 major accidents so far this year compared to 316 during the same period last year, a decrease of 3.8 percent.
So far this year, there have been four fatal crashes on Hawaii Island (one with multiple deaths), resulting in five fatalities, compared with three fatal crashes (one with multiple deaths), resulting in five fatalities, during the same period last year.
DUI roadblocks and patrols will continue islandwide, police said.
