Hawaii Community College business technology students recently visited the Hawaii County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney to learn about the organizational structure of the office and the role administrative professionals play in helping it operate smoothly.
The students are future administrative professionals eager to learn about etiquette, professionalism and the organizational structure of an office. Prosecutor Mitch Roth shared information about the role his office plays in the community, from supporting victims and their rights as well as organizing community activities to be proactive in preventing crimes.
Former HawCC business technology student Sharol Mahi, now a prosecutor’s office staff member, shared how she also once visited the office on a field trip. She gave students hope that they, too, can obtain a job that also can have a positive impact on Hawaii Island.
Roth also introduced business manager Lee Lord, who shared how a career path can change many times throughout one’s lifetime. He spoke of the different degrees and positions he had and how he came to his current post.
“Though I wasn’t sure what to expect from our excursion to the prosecutor’s office, it proved to be an invaluable experience,” said student Jennifer Napihaa. “We learned so much and were able to find out what types of positions are available and what it takes to obtain them.”
“I like how the office is organized … You can just feel the positive vibe and energy and it just makes you want to be a part of that team,” said student Brannalyn Lau. “I’ve been involved with the court system, so I could relate to most of the departments, their duties and responsibilities and how they process paperwork in a timely manner.
“It was interesting to know about the programs that they provide to help assist individuals and families to become better citizens in our society.”
