Officers responding to a 4:51 a.m. call determined a southbound 2004 Peterbilt rubbish truck on Kilauea collided with a 2001 Lincoln four-door sedan traveling west on Kawailani.

The 29-year-old man driving the Lincoln was taken to Hilo Medical Center and later flown to The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu in critical condition.

Any witnesses should call Officer Keith Nacis at 961-8119, the police nonemergency line at 935-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
