Top hit songwriters from throughout the country will gather June 16-18 at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel on the Kohala Coast for the Hawai‘i Songwriting Festival, culminating in two concerts open to the community.
Hawaii’s music community will have an opportunity to work one-on-one with songwriters who have written hits for mega-stars such as Plain White T’s, Tim McGraw, Whitney Houston, Taylor Swift, Jimmy Buffett, Bonnie Raitt, Christina Aguilera, George Strait, LeAnn Rimes, Ringo Starr, Bon Jovi, Chicago, Backstreet Boys and many more.
Festival attendees will spend three intensive days and evenings learning from the best in the business: songwriters, music supervisors for film and TV, music publishers, music producers and others. Small workshops, panel discussions, open mic performances and speed mentoring sessions will provide participants with information and networking opportunities needed in order to succeed in the craft and in the business of writing songs.
The festival culminates in two public concerts at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel ballroom. Co-sponsored by HARA and Mele Mei, the “Island Night” concert at 7 p.m. June 17 features Raiatea Helm, Paula Fuga, John Cruz and Streetlight Cadence. The “Hit Makers” concert at 7 p.m. June 18 features a roster of hit songwriters who will be performing and sharing the stories about their hit songs. This concert is a unique look at the behind-the-scenes music creators.
Festival registration cost is $200. Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel is offering a special group rate for festival attendees. To register as an attendee or to purchase concert tickets, visit www.hawaiisongwritingfestival.com.
The Hawai‘i Songwriting Festival is presented by the nonprofit Kaua‘i Music Festival. The festival took place annually on Kauai for 12 years, but was moved to the Big Island in 2015 and re-branded as the Hawai‘i Songwriting Festival. The festival is made possible in part by the state Department of Business, Economic Development &Tourism, Creative Industries Division, as well as local sponsors and donors.
