The state Senate confirmed Darien W.L. Ching Nagata as the newest Hilo District Court judge on Wednesday.

The state Senate confirmed Darien W.L. Ching Nagata as the newest Hilo District Court judge on Wednesday.

Ching Nagata, who joined the Hawaii County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office in 1998, replaces Judge Barbara Takase, who is retiring.

She oversees litigation in the district and family courts. Her career included serving as the violent crimes unit litigator and Circuit Court unit supervising attorney and litigator.

Ching Nagata will serve a term of six years.
