Silent Movie Night returns to the Palace Theater at 7 p.m. Friday with the creative and talented Tommy Stark again filling the theater with his organ accompaniment to the classic film “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.”
The evening will be a benefit for the Palace Theater and the Hilo Theater Organ Society, with proceeds to help keep the organ in fine form.
“Each time we hold a Silent Movie Night, we are getting more people attending,” said Morgen Bahurinsky, Palace Theater executive director. “People as young as 9 years old have come up to me after the movie to tell me what a fun experience it was.”
Stark’s masterful organ accompaniment makes an old silent film truly come alive with expression, Bahurinsky said. The original Jules Verne’s “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” first released in 1916, was quite an accomplishment in underwater cinematography for its time.
Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. For more information, call 934-7010 or visit www.hilopalace.com.
