Born in Clovis, N.M., he was a finish carpenter, U.S. Navy veteran, member of Hawaii Carpenters Union, Kona Orchid Society, American Pool Association and volunteered giving horseback rides to handicapped children. Carolyn Vivien Blankfield 75, of Hilo, died April 26 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Milwaukee, she was a licensed clinical social worker in private practice, taught at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, mentored new social workers, received Social Work Director of the Year awards in Wisconsin and Virginia, was president of Hawaii Writers Association, member of Hilo Medical Center Foundation Board and American Association of University Women.
