Melvin Castaneda, 71, of Hana, Maui, died April 29 at his daughter’s Hilo home. Born in Kapulena, he was a retired superintendent for Hawaiian Dredging Co., retired security guard at Kahului Airport on Maui, president of Royal Lanes’ Aloha Commercial League and East Maui Golf Club and member of Hawaii Carpenters Union Local 745, Pauuilo Community Athletic Association, Big Island Fil-Am Softball League and Statewide Umpire and Referee Association. Celebration of life will be held at a later date. Survived by daughters, Michele (Francis Naope) Castaneda of Hilo and Jennifer (Bruce) Gleason of Washington; hanai daughters, Makamae Smith of Maui and Christine Kaniho of Tennessee; sons, Keith Kaimana (Keala) Castaneda, of Kekaha, Kauai, and Craig (Ipo) Castaneda of Hana; brothers, Larry (Lisa) Castaneda of Honokaa and Michael (Karen) Castaneda of Oklahoma, 19 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Oshen Kaikea O Kamalii Correa, infant boy, was born and died March 14 at North Hawaii Community Hospital. Annabelle Trebing Floyd, 92, of Volcano, formerly of Mahwah, N.J., died April 22 at home. Born in Queens, New York City, she was a homemaker, formerly worked for New York Telephone Co. and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Ramsey, N.J. Sylvia Carol Keohoaeaeokahakukaalani Young, 80, of Hilo died April 14 in Waimea.
