Chad Cabral was named chief executive officer of the Boys &Girls Club of the Big Island.

The CEO serves as the executive in charge of the six site locations that service the Big Island. Zavi Brees-Saunders is stepping down after five years of leading BGCBI.

Cabral has more than 15 years of experience in educational administration, working for student and academic support programs at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and Colorado State University. He was raised in Hilo and has a bachelor’s degree in sociology and master’s in educational administration.

Most recently, Cabral served as director of development for Hawaii Island-based Hope Services Hawaii Inc., where he oversaw the development of needed community partnerships and funding resources that helped provide greater support for the island’s growing homeless population.

Cabral brings a high level of grant-writing and resource development experience to the position and hopes to expand the Boys &Girls Club youth development services and enrichment programs.

The Boys &Girls Club of the Big Island serves more than 1,000 youth each year, providing weekday after-school activities and specialized intersession programs for community youth ages 6-18.

Current club site locations include Hilo, Keaau, Pahoa, Hamakua, Pahala and Ocean View.
