Donald “Don” “Pops” “Mr. IZ” Dean Isbell, 85, of Kealakekua died April 26 at home. Born in Montier, Mo., he retired from teaching band and psychology at Pahoa and Konawaena high schools, was a substitute teacher at Kealakehe Intermediate and High schools, musician, Boy Scout leader, artist, member of West Hawaii County Band, Kona Symphony Orchestra, Boy Scouts of America, Kona Lions Club, Kona Masonic Society, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and U.S. Army veteran.
