Short n Sweet Bakery &Café was the top vote-getter, winning the People’s Choice award at the Rotary Club of South Hilo’s 12th annual Hilo Huli.
Short n Sweet offered a decadent banana dessert as its winning entry.
“Every year, we are so honored to participate in such a great community event,” said Short n Sweet owner Maria Short. “As a vendor that always serves dessert, we look forward to the challenge of creating new and exciting offerings.
“This year, we decided to go back to basics and re-imagine one of our most popular desserts, the banana roulade. The positive feedback heard while we were serving would have been enough, but the People’s Choice award was truly special.”
The annual Hilo Huli is the biggest fundraiser for the Rotary Club of South Hilo, which to date has brought in more than $200,000 to support local nonprofits and projects in the community. This year’s funds will go to support Hilo Medical Center Pediatric Unit renovations, Hospice of Hilo’s Keiki Bereavement Program, Bay Front Trails and various projects throughout the community.
The Rotary Club of South Hilo is made up of business and community leaders committed to creating great friendships and doing good works in the community. The club has a lunch meeting at noon every Tuesday at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel.
