U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Kiana Rae K. Baruela graduated from health services management technical training, located at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.
Additionally, she was promoted from airman basic to airman first class upon graduation.
She is serving as a health services management specialist with the 51st Medical Group at Osan Air Base in South Korea.
Baruela is the daughter of Myra A. Ross of Hilo.
She is a 2015 graduate of Waiakea High School.
Schlegelmilch picked for MIT program
U.S. Navy Lt. Barret Schlegelmilch recently was selected by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for its Leaders for Global Operations program.
Participation in the program will lead to the completion of a master of science degree in aeronautics/astronautics engineering and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management.
Schlegelmilch, currently serving aboard the USS Seawolf as assistant weapons officer, will transfer to the Naval Reserve while attending MIT.
Schlegelmilch is the son of Charles and Annette Schlegelmilch of Hilo.
He is a 2007 graduate of St. Joseph High School.
