The Banyan Drive Hawai‘i Redevelopment Agency’s board would include an attorney, Realtor, labor leader and two business owners if the County Council approves nominations next week.
The new agency will be tasked with developing a master plan to guide the future of East Hawaii’s resort area.
The council will consider nominations submitted by Mayor Billy Kenoi at its Tuesday meeting.
The nominees are: Mary Begier, attorney; Sig Zane, business owner and designer; Elmer Gorospe, Hawaii division director for International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 142; KTA Super Stores CEO Barry Taniguchi; and attorney Brian De Lima.
Planning Director Duane Kanuha said the board, after confirmed, will first need to approve its governing rules.
The members also will have to formulate their own budget, which would include funding from the county.
The redevelopment plan will require the County Council’s approval.
