Vuls ace named to PWC 2nd team

Vuls ace named to PWC 2nd team

New UH-Hilo graduate Jordan Kurokawa was selected second-team all-Pacific West Conference baseball, and the right-hander was the only Vulcan selected to one of the three teams.

Kurokawa was 10th in the league in ERA (2.96) and sixth in strikeouts, fanning 67 batters in 67 innings. In 10 starts, Kurokawa finished 3-5 for the last-place Vulcans (9-33, 7-27).

Special Olympics set to tee off

Special Olympics East Hawaii Golf season will begin June 10.

In the program’s ninth year, practices will be held every Friday through Aug. 21, and a golf tournament will be held at the end of the season.

All returning, and new athletes are encouraged to sign up at www.golf treasures.net. Click on Special Olympics 2016 sign-up for golf and fill out information. Sign-ups are also available at Golf Treasures, located at 37c Lono St.

Physicals slated for Keaau High

Keaau High School will be hosting a physical screening from 2-5 p.m. Wednesday at the gym.

Doctors will be on hand to conduct sports physicals, good for the 2016-17 school year, and students from all schools are welcome to attend.

The cost is $25, and anyone under the age of 14 must bring a parent/guardian to participate.

Sport physical forms will be on hand for all public-school attendees. Other attendees must bring with them the forms for their perspective schools/sports.

Billiards tourney honors veterans

808 Billiards in Hilo will hold an Memorial weekend 8-ball tournament May 28-29 that is free for veterans, service members and their dependants.

According to a release, all donations/contributions will go directly toward those who have sacrificed so others could enjoy liberties.

Preregistration is required.
