Kilauea put on a show for visitors to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on Tuesday as spatter from the lava lake became visible from the edge of the caldera.
Janet Babb, Hawaiian Volcano Observatory spokeswoman, said the bits of lava thrown into the air were seen as the lake almost rose into view.
She said Wednesday that the fluctuating lake in Halemaumau had lowered once again, keeping the lava out of sight.
