Tom Takehide Ban, 88, of Hilo died May 2 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Captain Cook, he was a retired plant operator-in-charge for Shell Oil Co., a U.S. Army veteran and member of Honpa Hongwanji Hilo Betsuin. Visitation 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday (May 28) at Dodo Mortuary Chapel. Memorial service at 11 a.m. Casual attire; no flowers. Survived by wife, Amy Ban of Hilo; sons, Richard (June) Ban of Hilo and Michael (Jennifer Chiemi) Ban of Kahului, Maui; brother, Robert (Betsey) Ban of Captain Cook; four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Arrangements by Dodo Mortuary.
