A new fire station being built on Haihai Street is expected to be finished by the end of the year.

A new fire station being built on Haihai Street is expected to be finished by the end of the year.

Assistant Fire Chief Glen Honda said the 12,000-square-foot facility is scheduled to be completed Nov. 19.

The $11 million station will replace the existing firehouse on Kawailani Street and serve Panaewa makai to Waiakea Uka.

Honda said the station will house 15 personnel on three shifts. The station also will have enough space to accommodate expansions, he said.

“We could put it to use immediately” after completion, Honda said. “We would like to get in there as soon as possible.”

Construction started in April.
