Quick quiz: Which golfer from Hawaii finished with the best score at the LPGA Tour stop last week at Kingsmill, Virginia?
The answer: One of Hilo’s own.
Britney Yada, a 2009 Waiakea graduate, made her LPGA Tour debut last week at the Kingsmill Championship, and although she missed the cut after rounds of 76 and 73 to finish 7-over, she took home valuable experience, while besting Michelle Wie by a stroke.
“Walking away from this week having learned a lot about my game and what it takes to get to the next level,” Yada tweeted Friday.
Taking a break from the Symetra and Cactus tours, Yada, who played at Portland State, earned her opportunity at Kingsmill earlier in the week with a 4-over 75 to earn the second spot in a qualifying round.
Yada is 30th on the Symetra Tour money list – the top 10 in the year-end standings secure LPGA cards for 2017 – having earned $10,354 in six events. Her highest finish in the LPGA developmental circuit this season is fourth.
Yada also has three wins in eight tries this season on the Cactus Tour, which holds most of its events in Arizona.
