Police are investigating a reported hit-and-run incident Thursday evening in Puna’s Nanawale Estates subdivision involving a car and a pedestrian.

A 34-year-old Pahoa man reported that he was walking southbound on Nanawale Boulevard at 7:30 p.m. Thursday when a car traveling in the same direction at a high rate of speed struck him and left the scene.

A good Samaritan gave the victim, who is being treated for minor injuries, a ride home.

Police are looking for witnesses to the crash and also want to talk to the good Samaritan, who was driving what might have been a green Subaru Outback.

The suspect’s car was described as a primer-gray four-door sedan, possibly with three occupants.

The case is being investigated as a negligent injury.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the police nonemergency line at 935-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 961-8300.
