Toshihiko “Chic” Asakawa, 89, of Hilo, died May 28 at Hospice of Hilo Pohai Malama Care Center. Born in Pahoa, he was retired from the county as a building construction inspector and the state as a structural building inspector, a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and member of Higashi Hongwanji Buddhist Temple.
