The College of Continuing Education and Community Service at the University of Hawaii at Hilo is offering a film appreciation series with instructor Artin Mardirousi.
Classes are from 5-9 p.m. Wednesdays, June 15 through July 6, in UH-Hilo’s K-122. Tuition is $60.
Mardirousi graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles with a degree in philosophy and a minor in film studies. He has worked as a freelance videographer and production assistant for television shows and commercials in Los Angeles.
Participants will learn how to view movies from a new perspective, with a deeper appreciation and understanding of what it takes to make a great film. The course will examine the different film techniques, individual uses and their effects on the story’s overall experience.
Films and subjects to be viewed include:
• “Children of Men” (2006), directing.
• “Pulp Fiction” (1994), editing/writing.
• “Goodfellas” (1990), music/narration.
• “The Wrestler” (2008) or “The Pianist” (2002), acting.
