Wong adds 2 more hits in minors
In two games in the minors, Kolten Wong already has one more RBI than he accumulated in 49 games this season in the majors.
One day after he hit a walk-off grand slam in his first game with Triple-A Memphis, Wong finished 2 for 6 with a RBI on Friday and hit leadoff for the Redbirds, who lost to Colorado Springs 7-6.
On Thursday, Wong hit two home runs, including a blast to lead off the top of the first.
He finished 3 for 4 with five RBIs.
Trailing 2-1 in the top of the ninth, Colorado Springs hit a grand slam to power into the lead, but it didn’t record an out in the bottom half of the inning.
After loading the bases on three singles, a hit batter and a walk scored two runs, and Wong sent a 3-1 pitch over the fence in right-center to send everybody home.
St. Louis sent the struggling Wong down to the minors Monday after the 2008 Kamehameha graduate became the odd man out for playing time in the infield.
He was hitting just .222.
