‘Mostly false’

‘Mostly false’

According to snopes.com, the cartoon Steve Breen drew depicting Hillary Clinton in a $12,494 jacket by Armani is “mostly false.”

The jacket is priced less than that and might have been either paid for by Ms. Clinton herself — at a reduced price — or borrowed from Armani.

The cartoon implies the jacket was worn during a speech that talked about poverty, which is false. Read the snopes.com article and see for yourself. The cartoon is slanted and untrue and should be read with caution.

Blame the breeders

I’ve read what happened to Pesh, and how the Hawaii Island Humane Society contract with the county is being “reworked.” We all know what HIHS won’t admit: They are the last resort.

Spaying/neutering is the answer to our growing problem of overpopulation of dogs/cats. Yes, the spay/neuter coupons and low-cost program helps. A mobile van added to the spay/neuter program is a big plus.

However, the biggest problem can be seen on Craigslist. Once is an “accidental” litter; twice is an irresponsible owner. After that, it’s a backyard breeder supplementing their income and not breeding to a breed’s standard.

We are told people will take care of what they pay for, but we’ve become a “throw away” society. Have you seen the “re-homing” fees? It’s called SELLING! How many end up at the HIHS in the end? How many end up as bait?

Something needs to be done about breeding! License and tax breeders and their litters. Mandatory spay/neuter of all puppies and kittens before they are sold by the litter’s owner. Anyone with an intact adult needs to be licensed and monitored, or fined. Veterinarians could help with discounted medical services for pets that were spayed/neutered, funded by the HIHS program.

Here’s an idea. How about the ASPCA, humane societies, Petco, PetSmart and others that really do care start a program. All pets that have been spayed/neutered, verified by a veterinarian, get a “membership” card giving them a discount for medical treatment, food, supplies and services related to their pet. This is a nationwide problem that keeps growing.
