Big Island Federal Credit Union announced a total of $10,000 in scholarships were awarded to seven hardworking students desiring to continue their education.

Big Island Federal Credit Union announced a total of $10,000 in scholarships were awarded to seven hardworking students desiring to continue their education.

The credit union’s scholarship committee reviews and scores all applicants based on academic excellence, personal achievements, community involvement, academic and career goals, and letters of recommendation.

The 2016 $2,500 scholarship recipients are Blair Martin, Waiakea High School, and Karyana Norris, Hilo High School.

The $1,000 scholarship recipients are Jelyn Heaster, University of Hawaii at Hilo; Bryce Yamashita, Waiakea High School; and Jayden Wagner-Mason, Makena Wagner and Rianne Masuda, Kamehameha-Hawaii.
