In Majors (ages 11-12), softball and baseball playoffs start Friday.
Gold Coast and Hilo meet at noon in Game 1 of a best-of-three softball series, while West Side Hawaii and North Hawaii play at 3 p.m. in baseball. Hilo has a bye and plays the winner on Saturday in a double-elimination tournament that runs through Monday.
West Side Hawaii and North Hawaii also will face off in a best-of-three Junior (ages 13-14) series that begins Saturday.

Softball tourney is cancer benefit
The third annual battling against cancer 14-inch softball tournament will be held Aug. 27-29 at Walter Victor Complex.
Divisions are kupuna and mixed (2 or more wahine) and the entry fee is $200.
The tournament is sponsored by Hui Malama Ola Na Oiwi for Malama Ka Pili Pa’a cancer support group.
Teams must supply their own softballs.

Mel Kaonohi aced the 151-yard 13th hole June 30 at Hilo Municipal Golf Course using a 7-iron while playing with Two Bits Golf Club.
Les Matsumoto and Kevin Bradley witnessed Kaonohi’s second hole-in-one.
