Hawaii Electric Light Co. reports that electric service has been restored to customers from Kolekole Beach Park to Malua Gulch on the Hamakua coast. Service was restored at 9:27 a.m.
At 2:17 a.m., a Hawaiian Dredging crane drifted into high voltage lines along the highway in Hakalau and caused a two-hour power outage for about 1,700 customers along the Hamakua coast. Starting at 7:17 a.m. about 400 customers from Kolekole Beach Park to Malua Gulch experienced a power outage while crews worked to safely remove the crane and repair damage to the high voltage lines.
“We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and thank the community for their patience and understanding as our crews worked to safely remove the crane and restore service,” said HELCO spokeswoman Rhea Lee-Moku.
