Hawaii County is facing a volunteer shortage for the primary election next month.

Hawaii County is facing a volunteer shortage for the primary election next month.

The county is seeing 20 percent fewer people sign up to help oversee voting locations for the Aug. 13 primary compared to the 2014 election cycle, according to Pat Nakamoto, county elections administrator. She said the county is in need of 30 volunteers in North Kona, 40 in South Kona and 20 between Hamakua and Waimea.

A shortage won’t result in the closure of polling places, but voters could see longer lines, Nakamoto added.
