Special Olympics East Hawaii Golf will be holding its 9th annual golf tournament at 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 21 at Banyans Golf Club.
The format is a four-man modified scramble and each group will include a Special Olympic athlete. Entry fee is $150, which also includes a cart and lunch. Special Olympians play for free.
All proceeds go to Special Olympics East Hawaii golf program.
The field is limited to 68 players and 17 Special Olympians are playing.

Soccer camp benefits former Vulcan
Big Island Soccer Academy is hosting a benefit camp Aug. 5-7 at Hilo Bayfront for former University of Hawaii at Hilo soccer player Lindsey Poulsen, who was recently diagnosed with cancer.
Featuring former UH-Hilo coaches and players, all proceeds from the camp will help cover medical expenses for Poulsen, a standout for the Vulcans who graduated in 2014.
The hours: Aug 5 (ages 6-9, 4-5:30 p.m.; ages 10-14, 5-6:30 p.m.); Aug. 6-7 (ages 6-9, 9-11 a.m.; ages 10-14, 12-2:30 p.m.)
The cost is $55 for the beginners camp and $65 for the advanced camp, with a $5 early registration before July 15.
According to a release, the “program is specially designed using the same philosophy and exercises used by the top youth development clubs from around the world.”
Players will train in skill appropriate groups at basic or advanced levels and must bring a ball, shoes, shin guards and water.

Vuls hire new trainer Gittens
Jasmine Gittens has been hired as a certified athletic trainer for UH-Hilo, effective Aug. 1.
Gittens joins the Vuls via Oakland, Calif. where she worked with collegiate, high school and professional athletes. Her stops include Stanford University, and she also served as an athletic trainer for the Bay Area Breeze, a Women’s Professional Soccer team.
