As of 2 p.m. Tropical Storm Darby was about 45 miles south of Hilo and is coming ashore in the Ka‘u distict, according to the National Weather Service.
Maximum sustanied winds are 40 mph and the storm is moving to the west-northwest at 10 mph.
A tropical storm warning remains in effect for Hawaii, Maui and Honolulu counties and a tropical storm watch remains in effect for Kauai County.
Tropical storm force winds are expected over the Big Island today, over portions of Maui County tonight and over Oahu Sunday. Tropical storm force winds are possible over Kauai County Monday.
Surf swells generated by Darby are expected to impact the Hawaiian Islands over the next couple of days.
Total rainfall from the storm is expected to be 10 to 15 inches, with possible isolated maximum amounts of 20 inches. These rains could produce life-threatening flash floods and landslides.
The next National Weather Service advisory is scheduled for 5 p.m.
